Description about the temple

This is one temple, I do not know how to start the description. It is the best master piece of Hoysala architecture and the entire temple is studded with so many images, that I really cannot describe in words.

At the moment, I request you to visit the place for yourself to understand better. I feel it is next to impossible to explain without hundreds of pictures.

More than 3 visits are required just to understand the basics of it and each visit should last for atleast 5 hours.

How to reach Somanathapura

From Bangalore 180 kms

From DHQ Mysore 50 kms

Route :
1.Bangalore-Ramanagara-Channapatna-Maddur-Malavalli-Somanathapura.

2.Bangalore-Kanakapura-Malavalli-Somanathapura.

3.Mysore-Tirumakudal Narasipura-Somanathapura.

4.Mysore-Bannur-Somanathapura.

Road :
Somanathapura being a major tourist spot in Karnataka it is well connected by road from Mysore and Bangalore.

It is advisable for the tourist to go by their own vehicle as there are many places around to watch after visiting the temple.

Rail :
The nearest rail head is at Mysore. One can reach Mysore from part of the Country, as it is well connected from Chennai, Mumbai and Delhi, and then proceed by road to Somanathapura.

Airport :
Bangalore International Airport is the nearest airport, but once Mysore airport becomes operational it will be the nearest.

Amenities and other useful details

Restaurant : No restaurants are there, apart from small canteen where you can get some coffee or tea along with cold drinks. Be prepared with food if you want to spend more time in Somanathapura. Else travel to T Narsipura where you can find something good to eat.

Hotel: There are no hotels to stay at Somanathapura, so it is advisable you stay in Mysore or Bangalore.

ATM: No ATMs are available in Somanathapur, it is better you draw cash before you start. Also, at T Narsipur you will find SBM and SBI ATM.

Transportation: It is good, if you take your own vehicle as the frequency of private buses are minimal.

Fuel Station: No fuel station is available, better get it filled in Malavalli or in T Narsipura.

Health Care: I am not sure about PHC, but for any emergencies reach out either to Malavalli or T Narsipura.
