Description about the temple
Sri.Chandra Mouleshwara temple is a master piece which is left over by Calukyan kings. The plan itself is so unique and I have not seen such a temple which is so symmetric in nature and it is really beautiful.
The temple has got four entrances(N,E,S and W). Normally the North door is kept open for visitors and remaining doors are locked.
The front porch is missing or destroyed and one can find pieces available in North approach. The entrance is richly decorated and as we enter the temple, the four Suka Nasi merge together to form a chamber which is open for Pradakshina and the devotees can see the Shiva Linga again from all the four entrances to Garbhagriha. Till date I have not come acros such a temple which is so beautifully built.
The grill work is amazing and noteworthy along with lot of images of Vishnu, Natya Ganapati, Shiva, Mahishasura Mardini, Dancers, etc., are decorated along the walls of the temples.
A pedestal is present in the Northern entrance and one can see the remaining parts of the entrance porch.
This temple should be in your must visit list when you come across Hubli.
